Financial Process Improvement Specialist

ARServices is seeking a Financial Process Improvement Specialist to join our team. This professional will provide professional, technical, and administrative support to US Government Financial Manager in the R&D Division within the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).  The position is primarily located at the ARServices office in Alexandria, VA.

Principal Duties

  • As a process expert, work collaboratively with the DLA R&D finance staff and R&D program managers to understand DLA R&D financial objectives and requirements
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of R&D and program management skills to evaluate performance results and make recommended changes to financial processes
  • Analyze financial processes and re-engineering requirements as they apply to the current and future R&D environment
  • Analyze, map, and document DLA R&D financial policies and processes
  • Recommend and facilitate policy and/or process improvement efforts
  • Interact with government customer to receive and meet requirements, such as briefing materials and briefing templates and technical information requirements as necessary
  • Daily activities include:
    • Create process change by integrating new processes with existing ones and effectively communicate these changes to the impacted staff and program teams
    • Organize data, establish file structures, and ensure information is captured and stored in locations accessible to various user groups
    • Develop reports as required to support operations, write knowledge content as required, and prepare presentations for senior management to support recommended changes, new initiatives or enhancements


  • Active Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a business-related discipline (logistics, industrial engineering, management, economics, finance, or information technology)
  • At least two (2) years of recent experience within a DoD organization, including support to DLA R&D programs or equivalent DoD R&D programs
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities
  • Experience with the MS Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Project and Visio
  • Ability to develop executive-level briefing materials, administrative, and logistics support
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships within teams and across the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to multiple audiences (e.g., technical and non-technical, executive-level)
  • Creative thinker; strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience with either working for or supporting DLA
  • Familiarity with DLA, DoD, or other Federal Government Enterprise Business Systems, financial management sub-systems, including eProcurement, Wide Area Workflow (WAWF)/Invoicing Receipt Acceptance and Property Transfer (iRAPT) suite (myInvoice and Electronic Document Access), eWorkplace
  • Familiarity with Knowledge Management and Sharepoint
  • Understanding of the DoD Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution process
  • Familiarity with monitoring and tracking process for the obligation and expenditure of allocated funds
